SYDNEY, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Police in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) have charged two men over an alleged attempt to use a drone to deliver methamphetamine.

The NSW police force said in a statement on Thursday that officers were deployed to reports of two men acting suspiciously at a residential complex in the city of Wollongong, 68 km south of Sydney, on Tuesday night.

Police arrived at the scene and found the two men, aged 43 and 24, who told officers that they were searching for a drone that had crashed within the complex.

A damaged drone carrying a bag containing 66 grams of methamphetamine was found at the scene by police following a search.

The two men were arrested and a subsequent search of a Wollongong home on Wednesday located another 42 grams of methamphetamine, an electronic stun device and 4,350 Australian dollars (3,100.4 U.S. dollars) in cash.

Both men were charged with supplying an indictable quantity of a prohibited drug.

Police said it will be alleged in court that the men were using the drone to deliver drugs in the area when it crashed.

If convicted, both face maximum penalties of 15 years' imprisonment. ■
