SINGAPORE, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 0.14 percent or 5.05 points to close at 3,543.18.

A total of 1.06 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 894.9 billion Singapore dollars (about 668.8 million U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 230 to 157.
